About
Ekaterina Zaznova is a contemporary watercolour artist, educator, and methodology author based in New Jersey, USA. Her practice combines traditional watercolour with experimental approaches to pigment, water, alcohol, diffusion, and evaporation. She is the creator of the original “Watercolor & Alcohol” technique, registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, in which alcohol functions not as a decorative effect but as a constructive medium that shapes pigment movement, texture, spatial depth, and composition.
Zaznova is also the author of “Watercolor. Identity. Recognition.”, a book that expands her material practice into a broader framework connecting experimentation with personal and artistic identity. Alongside her studio work, she founded and strategically directs the international educational projects Pro Akvarel and About Watercolour. Current professional profiles describe these initiatives as connecting more than 10,000 artists worldwide and reaching more than 200,000 viewers per month.
Her work has been exhibited in the United States and internationally. In 2026, Artseeker Gallery presented her solo online exhibition “Stream of Thoughts” on Artsy; her professional record also includes Affordable Art Fair New York and selections for international and juried watercolour exhibitions. She is affiliated with established professional watercolour organizations including the American Watercolor Society (AWS), National Watercolor Society (NWS), and Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS), as well as other professional art associations.
Her principal bodies of work include Stream of Thoughts, Flower Talismans, Textures, and Marine Motifs, exploring transformation, perception, inner states, and the hidden structures of the external world. As an educator, she emphasizes material behaviour, controlled experimentation, and the development of an individual visual language rather than mechanical step-by-step copying.
